Ubuntu & MIDI

If you are tired of on-screen keyboards when making music, you could purchase a real keyboard. Thats where the word MIDI comes into play. MIDI is used to connect music hardware and software to each other so that they “speak to each other”.

Basic set-up could be MIDI keyboard that is connected to your computer. When you press a key on keyboard, it will send a signal to you application, which in turn will register it and play a sound. You will need a MIDI cable which has MIDI connectors (big and round) and USB connector. Plug USB connector into your PC and then connect MIDI IN into MIDI OUT in your keyboard.

In Ubuntu this should work out of the box, at least in LMMS. All you have to do is to activate MIDI in that track where you want to use it.
